photo album - newspaper clippings about the pilot project in Venezuela

Because most of the patients of a hospital undergo the treatment at home, it is important to reach people also at home. The newspaper, radio and TV are appropriate media for this. Below some newspaper reports that were published in the local newspapers during the pilot project in Venezuela.

Diario La Verdad, 9 May 2001

The hospital Hospital Central in Maracaibo becomes the pilot hospital for the implementation of the project Hospitales Verdes. This project is a Dutch initiative with the aim to humanise our health centres.

The director of the hospital, Dr. Mery Guerra, says that the project directly and indirectly helps public health. According to her, this project is a model for other hospitals, because they themselves can work for an improvement of their waste management. This enhances the quality of their service and with that the health and well being of the population. She is very enthusiastic about the project, because it involves other institutions, such as the central, state and local governments and the Sanitary Service, in the issue.

The municipality of Maracaibo supports this initiative “Hospitales Verdes”. The municipal Sanitary Service (IMAO) will cooperate actively in the project. They will improve their waste management.

Sandra Viada, Assistant Director of the Sanitary Service: for the first time in Venezuela this joint effort takes place. We will cooperate that all concerned institutes become sustainable.
Javier Parra, director of the Sanitary Service: “Such a project is very important for the municipality, because it makes people aware and involves them in the issue. The benefits will be seen on the medium term. The project stimulates all people concerned. I doubt that we will be successful without this support.”

The director of the model hospital, Mery Guerra: “I am very glad with the project, because it works on the improvement of the service by the hospital. The conference, that the hospital, together with the Sanitary Service and the Stichting Huize Aarde, organises, is a chance to stimulate hospital directors, physicians, nurses, administrators and other supporting personnel, to take their responsibility.”
